WETHERSFIELD, CT (WFSB) – A text message scam has prompted a warning from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
The DMV said scammers have been texting victims about alleged unresolved traffic citations.
“These messages are fraudulent,” the DMV said in a social media post. “We do not notify residents via text regarding the status of unpaid violations.”
The DMV said that if people receive such a message, they should report it to the Federal Trade Commission and delete it.
“This message is not legitimate and was not sent by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles,” the department said in a statement.
