CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles is warning about text messages circulating, and the DMV said the texts are not legitimate – they’re part of a scheme.
The messages ask the victim for either payments to clear up traffic citations or pay tolls. However, the DMV emphasizes it will never, under any circumstances, ask for payment through texting.
The DMV wants everyone to know expiration dates for your registration or license is given in advance. It won’t suddenly be tomorrow.
In addition, they won’t rush you to respond. The only DMV website you should click is DMV.gov or WV.gov.
If you’re not sure, you can call the DMV to confirm any suspicious activity. The number is 800-642-9066.
