State police in Indiana are warning residents of a texting scam making its rounds.
Troopers say they were informed of the scam in which a text or email is sent from someone saying they are with the U.S. Postal Service, and it asks victims to click a false website link in an attempt to steal their personal information.
In a statement, officials with the USPS urge residents not to click the link and to delete the message immediately. They add USPS only utilizes text messages to send/receive five-digit verification codes and official SMS messages.
Troopers once again urge residents to talk with friends and family about common scams, especially during the holiday season, which is a popular time for scammers to prey on victims.
