The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has issued a warning about a text message scam that impersonates Chief Justice Debra Todd and requests payment for an incomplete court filing.
Scammers often pose as law enforcement or legal authorities because such messages can intimidate recipients, especially those unfamiliar with the legal system.
This latest scam claims to be from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and alleges that “First Chief Justice Debra Todd” is advising the recipient of an incomplete court filing, requesting payment via PayPal to correct the issue.
There is no conceivable legal scenario where the chief justice of the state Supreme Court would be sending any citizen a text message like this.
Those unaware of this fact could fall victim to the scam and lose significant amounts of money.
Anyone who receives this text message is advised to contact their local police department immediately.
