A lawsuit filed by Karen Read Thursday revealed text message exchanged between two police officers who investigated her for murder that are chock-full of racial slurs and other highly offensive language.
Read’s lawyers say that the text messages between Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor and Canton Police Sgt. Sean Goode revealed them to be “inveterate bigots” and displayed “their unfitness for any position of public trust.”
“Indeed, throughout the course of their friendship, which dates back to high school, Goode and Proctor bonded over the warped prism through which they both view their surroundings and the individuals they encounter in their personal and professional lives,” the complaint states.
“These distorted worldviews were shaped by unimaginable hatred and intolerance, through which they dehumanized others, often wishing violence or death on them, demeaning them, or even suggesting ‘planting’ evidence on them to cause them harm.”
The vast majority of the messages are unprintable even with censoring the offending language because of how densely packed it is.
The alleged material is not only racist but hints at rape in at least one instance and singles out powerful figures in greater Boston for abuse, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who Goode refers to as a “little (c-word),” Gov. Maura Healey, who Goode says can “suck” him, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who Goode referred to in demeaning terms based on his being Jewish. That sentiment also applied to historical figures, as he called Anne Frank, which he misspelled as “Franks,” as “a lying (c-word).”
The following are some of the alleged messages contained within the complaint:
— Proctor: “Detroit should be destroyed along with places like flint Michigan. They are breeding grounds for (racial slur) to run wild”
— Proctor: “Deport their asses. I don’t care if they are here legally or what their excuse was (expletive) deport those sand (same slur)”
— Proctor: “Unfortunately… I know Randolph all too well. Place is a complete (expletive)hole filled with (slur), no good (slur).”
— Proctor: [Referring to one of his then-girlfriend’s orifices]: “I can’t even get (expletive)ing near that thing. … I make every effort possible. I wait till she’s asleep and I try to get at it, I try every effort possible, I try to get her hammered, I can’t get anywhere near it. Um, it’s starting to piss me off… it’s not cool.”
— Proctor, in another expression of desire to rape: “That’s when u [w]hack off on her when she’s asleep. Then tell her one way or a other u will spray a rope on her”
— Proctor, another rape-related text: “She will pass out at 9 and I will stay up until midnight drinking and watching movies. I could swoop in for the kill when she is asleep though”
— Proctor, discussing needing a sexual partner, says he needs “a roofie or something”
— Proctor: “My new VP is a giant malignant (sp?) (slur referring to a woman’s anatomy). I pray to the heavens that some (expletive)ed up insect from the amazon crawls up her (anatomical part), hatches eggs and the litter kills her by eating her from the inside out.”
— Proctor, who expressed in 2017 that he had “No idea how I passed the background” check to become a Trooper, gave his friends a heads up in 2013: “Hey dickheads [-] Just wanted to give u two a heads up that u guys may get a call from a state trooper named Scott cooper who is doing my background check… Don’t know who [sic] far back they are gonna go with this stuff but didn’t want to have this guy catch u off guard.”
— Proctor: “Another plane was brought back to the gate because of 2 sand (expletive) speaking Arabic and people on the plane were freaked out and had theт kicked off”
— Proctor: “Word up dudes. Been just crushing business (expletive) today. Actually not really, just been dipping and trying to make sense of what the (slur for Asians) next to me is saying”
— Proctor: “we could use them (n-word)s as dart boards”
— Proctor: Discussing Jewish people from Sharon and stating, “we really should keep them in a concentration camp”
— Goode: “Never understood whiny Jew humor”
— Goode: “Now how are the blacks down there? Very Blackie?”
