Police advise citizens to be cautious in the digital space
The Police Directorate announced that a phishing attack targeting bank clients via SMS messages was recorded today, in the afternoon.
These messages, they said, contained a URL link to a fake online payment page, with the aim of stealing sensitive personal and financial information.
“Senders – individuals who commit these criminal acts in cyberspace, namely, falsely present these SMS messages as official bank notifications, in order to trick citizens into accessing a malicious phishing link and entering sensitive data, thereby enabling the misuse of that data,” the police explained.
They warned citizens not to access the aforementioned links that arrive via such SMS messages, and not to enter their personal data, card numbers, PIN codes, or other sensitive information.
They remind that this is not the first time that the names and visual identities of banks headquartered in Montenegro have been misused in attempts to defraud citizens, and they call on the public to be more cautious and behave responsibly in the digital space.
