Scam alert | Fraudulent text messages claim to be from PennDOT – WGAL

Scammers are targeting Pennsylvania residents with text messages claiming to be from PennDOT about unpaid traffic violations, creating urgency by stating payment is due by Tuesday, March 17, and threatening consequences if fines are not paid.
A week ago, scammers were sending messages about parking tickets in Philadelphia, and this past weekend, they added unpaid tolls and general traffic violations to their barrage of scam messages.
Many viewers reported receiving text messages claiming to be from PennDOT about an unpaid traffic violation, with threats that driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations could be impacted, along with the debt being reported to a credit agency.
Do not be unnerved by these texts and pay money for offenses they did not commit.
