NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Duke Energy is warning customers of a scam text message detailing information about scheduled outages sent from a fraudulent number.
The message says, “From Duke Energy. ‘Scheduled Rolling Power Outages Effective 11PM – By Zip Codes and Time. Will remain in effect to January 27th due to freeze condition. Click below for map and details…” and includes a phishing link.
Anyone who received this text should not click the link or download any attachments, Duke Energy said. Any announcements from the utility will come directly from official communication channels.
If you have received a text and you aren’t sure if it is legit, contact Duke Energy directly instead of clicking any links.
