'I lost my home, university funding and seven-year relationship over one text message' – The Mirror

A woman has had her entire life turned upside down after she lost her home, university funding, and relationship over just one text message – and people say she deserved it
It only takes one mistake to completely turn your life upside down, and that's exactly what happened to one woman who found herself kicked out of her home and dumped by her boyfriend over just one text message. The woman's partner explained he had been in a relationship with her for seven years and the pair had talked about getting married before he found a message on her phone that changed everything.
The man said he hadn't meant to snoop on her phone, but after he misplaced his own device he used hers to call his so he could find it. When he unlocked her phone, it was open on a WhatsApp conversation between her and a former boyfriend – which confirmed she had been cheating on him with her ex.
The man was left seething by what he saw and decided his relationship was over. He called his landlord to request getting his locks changed so his girlfriend could no longer live with him, meaning her one mistake cost her both her home and her relationship.
In a post on Reddit, he said: "I needed to use her phone to call mine, and when I unlocked her phone it was open on a WhatsApp conversation between [her and her ex-boyfriend]. I have nothing against the guy personally, but he's going nowhere in life and I don't understand why she'd want to be with him.
"Anyway, rather than sadness/heartbreak this actually just made me angry. Angry that I've put so much into this relationship and woman that I thought would be the mother of my future children. So I arrange a locksmith to change the locks the next day while she's at class, pack up as much of her stuff as I can find, and leave it outside. Text her about what I've done, and say if she wants to get anything else I've missed to have her brother come and get it – I don't want to see or speak to her ever again."
What's more, the man also admitted he had been "supporting" his girlfriend while she pursued a medical degree and had been helping to fund her tuition. With their relationship over, he will no longer be making those payments – meaning the woman has also lost her university funding.
Since making his decision, the man has been contacted by both his family and his partner's, with them both begging him not to "throw away" their seven-year relationship. He added: "They say that what she did is wrong – but it's no reason to throw away 7+ years – and that if I kick her out she will be forced to drop out [of university] and waste years of education."
Commenters on the post were firmly on the man's side though, as many of them said he wasn't the one "throwing away" the relationship as he wasn't the one who cheated. One person said: "Cheating is what throws away a 7+ year relationship, not the person realising they deserve better than that."
While another said: "She is of course completely in the wrong. But I think a relationship of that length deserves a final conversation," and a third person wrote: "Tell her parents that her new boyfriend can finish paying for her schooling. And the way you went about it was fine. It was exactly like kicking her out, without the face-to-face screaming match."
