The Monday morning drop-off at Burdick School arrived with mixed feelings as parents still thought about the email they received the night before.
“There was a threat made towards someone or the school itself; that’s about all they told us, which is fine. You know, the less we know, the better,” said Mike Lewis after dropping off his daughter.
Iris Pulido felt different after dropping off her grandson.
“I’ll be praying today at work, so I’ll be kind of worried, but I’ll be calling her so she can follow up with the school. But the school’s pretty good,” she said.
The school’s principal sent an email to parents and families Sunday night that read:
“Today, our staff was informed about statements made online in reference to our school environment. There was a text message threat targeting our school, specifically, a student.”
The email also said the school notified Milwaukee police, and they sent extra security to the school. WISN 12 News spotted at least three squad cars at morning drop-off.
“Well, they’re smart. So if … the threat was too bad, they wouldn’t open the doors; they would close school down for the day, or possibly the week,” said Matthew Lawrence while dropping off his students.
“I hope they have a lot of security there today and stuff. So I’m going to call my daughter in an hour. So I’ll just follow up with the school and see what they tell her,” Pulido said.
