CARLISLE, Pa. — A Cumberland County police department is warning central Pennsylvania residents about a suspected phone scam involving phony text messages from someone claiming to be associated with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
According to Carlisle Police, the texts claim the recipient has unpaid fines stemming from an unresolved traffic issue.
The messages are bogus, the police department said.
“It’s important to note that PennDOT would never reach out to individuals via text message,” the police department said. “If you receive such a message, it’s best to delete it immediately and alert your family and friends about this scam.”
