APUA alerts residents to SMS messages and email fraud – Antigua Observer Newspaper

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is warning the public about a fraud being perpetrated regarding unpaid utility bills.
APUA said it has been made aware of a series of fraudulent SMS messages and emails being sent to customers, falsely claiming to be from the company outstanding utility bills.
The utilities company has disassociated itself from these messages which it has described as part of a phishing scam.
Customers are being urged to remain vigilant and to carefully check the sender’s email address or phone number.
“Do not respond to these messages or click on any links contained within them,” APUA advises.
According to APUA, people who have received such a messages or are unsure about their authenticity are asked to contact its Customer Service team at 480-7150 for verification.
