Getting constant spam calls or texts on your Galaxy S24 can really ruin your day. The good news is that Samsung’s One UI makes blocking numbers straightforward, and you have a few different ways to do it depending on where you’re seeing the unwanted contact.
You can also set us as a preferred source in Google Search/News by clicking the button.
Once a number is blocked, it can’t reach you through regular calls or SMS messages. They’ll be silently rejected, and you won’t get any notifications. Let’s walk through the methods, starting with the quickest one.
This is usually the fastest way. Open your Phone app and tap the Recents tab at the bottom. Find the problematic number in your list. Tap on it to open the call details, then tap Block number.
You’ll see a confirmation pop-up. Just tap Block again, and you’re done. That number is now on your blocked list and won’t be able to ring your phone.
If the spam is coming via text, open your Messages app. Find and open the conversation with the number you want to block. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Details.
On the contact details screen, you’ll see a Block option. Tap it and confirm. This will block all future messages and calls from that specific number directly from your messaging app.
Sometimes you need to block someone you actually know. Open your Contacts app and find the person. Tap to open their contact card, then tap the three-dot menu button at the top.
Select Block contact from the menu. This is a more comprehensive block, as it will prevent any phone number or email address saved under that contact’s name from reaching you.
To see everyone you’ve blocked or to manually add a number, go to your Phone app and tap the three-line menu button. Go to Settings > Block numbers.
Here you’ll see your complete list. You can tap the red minus icon next to any entry to unblock it. You can also tap Add phone number at the top to manually type in a number you want to block.
Your S24 has powerful spam filtering built right in. In the same Phone app Settings menu, look for Caller ID and spam protection. Make sure this toggle is switched on.
This feature uses Hiya’s database to identify and warn you about suspected spam calls before you even answer. For even more peace of mind, you can enable Block spam and scam calls right below it to have those calls blocked automatically.
If you only want calls from people in your contacts, there’s a setting for that. Go back to Phone app Settings > Block numbers. Look for the option Block unknown/private numbers and toggle it on.
This sends any call from a number not in your address book straight to voicemail. It’s a great way to eliminate all random calls, though be aware you might miss calls from doctors’ offices or delivery drivers.
For the person you block, their experience depends on your carrier. Usually, their call will go straight to voicemail after one ring, or they might hear a busy signal. They won’t get a specific message saying they’re blocked.
On your end, you won’t receive any notification of their attempt to call or text. The call won’t show in your recent log, and the text message will simply vanish. I’ve found this system works very reliably on the S24.
You can help fight spam at the network level. When you get a spam text, you can forward it to 7726 (which spells “SPAM”). Just tap and hold the message, select Forward, and enter 7726 as the recipient.
You’ll usually get an automated reply asking for the sender’s number. This feeds the data to your carrier (like AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile) so they can work on blocking that number for all their customers.
For the heaviest spam filters, you can look to the Play Store. Apps like Truecaller have massive, community-updated databases of spam numbers. They can identify almost any incoming call, even if it’s not in your contacts.
After installing, the app will integrate with your phone’s dialer. You’ll see caller ID for nearly every number and can set rules to auto-block entire categories of suspected spam. It adds an extra, very effective layer on top of Samsung’s own tools.
