The Police Supervision Agency has today executed security measures against six police officers and one citizen, suspected of being involved in organizing and favoring sports betting.
The operation in question was codenamed “Last Bet” and was organized by the Elbasan AMP. It is learned that two police officers have been arrested as a result of the investigation, while four others are under mandatory reporting. A citizen from Tirana also ended up in handcuffs.
Meanwhile, investigations reveal detailed communications on the WhatsApp application, documenting criminal activity.
Among the most salient conversations seized from the suspects’ cell phones are messages such as the following:
Message A: In addition to the 50/50 share, there is also a % for the pox and 20% for the profits.
Message B: You’re going to give me 405, I’ll give him 200, keep mine because it’s yours, because I got 200 for the money.
Message C: Argentina 2/3 plus, Mexico 2/plus, 70 thousand lek.
Message D: Don’t give us a winning ticket, boss, let’s just take that %.
Message E : I played a couple of games today, and I got 4 points back.
Message F: You are owner no. 1… tomorrow I have to hand over the lottery money.
Message G : You also have 1 million and 50… 50 of this month, which we entered.
Message H: I have the money, I told that friend that I got it from him when I gave him 2.2 million.
Message J: I’m 3.7 plus, I don’t want to touch them anymore.
Apparently, instead of fighting illegal gambling, it seems that the police had become “hardened gamblers” themselves, even getting into debt.
The conversations clearly show the coordination of sports betting, the sharing of winnings, the use of “winning slips” and the management of large sums of money among police officers.
According to the investigation, two police officers are suspected of having organized and carried out the illegal activity, while one of them is in prison custody for other charges, including extortion by threats and drug trafficking.
As part of the “Last Bet” operation, AMP executed security measures against 6 police officers and 1 citizen: Redon Tafilaku, Enea Kapllani, Ilir Tafa, Denis Sinani, Aldi Molla, Gëzim Beqiraj and ED, for involvement in illegal games and abuse of office.
