Fully 84% of consumers in the United States say they’ve opted in to receive texts from at least one business, up from 62% in 2021, according to recent research from Simple Texting.
The report was based on data from a survey of 1,000 US consumers as well as 400 business owners and digital marketers in the US.
Some 48% of consumers say they currently receive texts from 1-3 businesses and 34% say they receive texts from 2-4 businesses.
Nearly half (49%) of consumers say their ideal cadence for receiving texts from a business would be one message every other week.
Consumers say the top reasons they’ve opted into text messages from businesses are to receive appointment/reservation reminders, get shipment tracking/order notifications, and receive discounts and promotions.
Consumers say the top reason that they’d opt out of receiving messages from a business would be too frequent texting.
Some 66% of business owners and marketers surveyed say their firm is using SMS marketing software to text customers, and 82% say SMS marketing is an effective way to drive revenue.
