Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province has established a direct communication channel connecting citizens with the mayor. Starting from the 27th, the ‘Direct Text Message Complaint Service’ will allow citizens to send messages regarding daily inconveniences or policy suggestions via mobile text. Jeong Deok-yeong, Mayor of Yangju, will personally review the messages and instruct relevant departments for prompt resolution.

The core of this service is to allow citizens to express their opinions via text messages anytime and anywhere, without the need for complicated complaint procedures or visiting city hall. The initiative aims to swiftly reflect public feedback in municipal governance and to realize a citizen-centered administration.
Any citizen interested in Yangju’s municipal affairs can participate by sending a text message to a dedicated number, without having to install a separate application or register as a member. Short messages (SMS), long messages (LMS), and MMS with attached images are all supported.
The service will accept text complaints related to various daily inconveniences such as roads, transportation, and the environment, as well as suggestions and policy recommendations for the overall administration. All messages received will be personally reviewed by Mayor Jeong. After this, the complaints will be distributed to the appropriate departments, and citizens will be notified of results and progress via text message.
The city intends to use this service to enhance its ability to respond to issues on the ground and to turn citizen input into valuable policy assets for municipal operations. There are also high expectations for providing faster administrative services that citizens can experience directly by streamlining the complaint handling process.
Mayor Jeong Deok-yeong stated, “The Direct Text Message Complaint Service is a communication channel intended to relieve citizens’ frustrations and to place the voices of the people as the highest priority in city administration,” adding, “We encourage your active participation, and we will do our utmost to ensure that your valuable feedback is promptly reflected in city policies.”
Meanwhile, to prevent confusion in using the service, Yangju City will continue to promote the dedicated phone number for text messages through a variety of online and offline channels, including the city hall homepage, social networking services (SNS), electronic display boards, and community newsletters for local officials.
