TRAI now requires every commercial SMS to end with P, T, S, or G. These codes tell you if a message is a promotion, transaction, service alert, or government notification, helping users stay safe from spam and fraud.
The letter P marks Promotional messages like ads or marketing alerts. For example, AD-Myntra-P is a pure promotion. You can skip these messages without worry, saving time and avoiding unnecessary distractions.
T indicates Transactional messages, including OTPs, bank alerts, and debit/credit notifications. Examples: AX-Axis-T, HDFCBN-T. These messages are sensitive—read carefully and never share OTPs or financial details.
S stands for Service messages, such as bill reminders, flight updates, or subscription alerts. They keep you informed about ongoing services, deadlines, and confirmations so you don’t miss important updates.
G marks official Government messages. Only registered departments can use it for public notifications, vaccination updates, or disaster alerts. Trust messages ending with G for authentic government information.
Check sender formats. Trusted companies and banks use 6–8 letter headers with P, T, S, or G. SMS from normal 10-digit numbers may be spam. Never click unknown links or share OTPs, even if the caller claims to be a bank official.
