Most Americans say they have signed up to receive mobile text messages from a business in the past year, according to recent research from SimpleTexting.
The report was based on data from a survey conducted in April 2022 among 813 people in the United States. The researchers also conducted a separate survey of 501 business owners and marketing managers in the US to understand their SMS marketing efforts.
Some 70% of respondents say they have subscribed to receive texts from a business in the past year, up from 62% who said the same in 2021.
More than half (53%) of people say they check their text messages 11 times a day or more. That compares with 29% who say they check their email 11 times a day or more.
Marketers say they are mainly using SMS messages to alert subscribers about special offers/sales (38% say they are doing) and as part of billing/collections (38%).
Most marketers (89%) report an average clickthrough rate of more than 10% for their SMS marketing messages. That compares with only 36% who report an average clickthrough rate of more than 10% for their email campaigns.
