An advisory is being issued by the provincial government as scams have been discovered regarding traffic violations.
Residents of the province have been receiving scam text messages claiming to be from the province, alerting residents that they have an outstanding traffic citation.
The texts claim to be from the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan, and direct individuals to a webpage to submit payment online.
These messages are fake, with the province stating that they do not conduct fine payment through text messages and do not send out alerts regarding overdue fines by text.
Anyone who receives text messages from scammers are encouraged to keep the following tips in mind:
To double check if a text message is legitimate or if you believe you are the victim of fraud, the province asks that people contact their local police or Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment.
