California-based telecom company TeleSign received only a compliance direction from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) after carrying 1,121 scam text messages impersonating HSBC and failing to report them to the regulator, according to the ABC, citing industry sources. The broadcaster reported that the messages formed part of a wider bank impersonation scam that targeted Australian consumers between 2020 and 2024.
