CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado state troopers are warning of a convincing new scam making the rounds.
Crooks are texting unwitting citizens, claiming they owe money in court. The text comes with an official-looking form:
“Do NOT click any links or send any money,“ State Patrol warned in a Facebook post Sunday night. ”Courts will not contact you by text message demanding payment.”
If you get this text or one similar, law enforcement advises you to look up the court’s phone number online and call them directly.
“When in doubt, don’t trust the text. Verify it,” State Patrol said.
