State officials warn residents of OMV text message scam – WAFB

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) are urging residents to be aware of a fraudulent text message scam.
Louisiana officials say the message, aimed at stealing personal information and charging unnecessary fees, claims the recipient has an “outstanding traffic ticket” and must pay a fee or face repercussions.
Now, officials are warning residents not to click any links, respond, or send payment to those or any other potential scam messages. They also advise that everyone not only ignore, but delete the messages immediately.
The OMV provides the following tips to help residents avoid scams:
