The messages state that a “refund request has been processed and approved” and ask recipients to provide payment information through a suspicious link. The text also threatens that failure to respond will result in the loss of the refund.
Officials confirm that this is a scam. The Florida Department of Revenue does not send text messages requesting personal or banking information.
