Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office warning residents of ongoing text message scam posing as reputable companies like Apple or PayPal – KKTV

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) is warning the public about an ongoing text message scam going around where fraudsters are trying to access people’s bank accounts or credit card information.
PCSO said the fraudsters are posing as reputable companies like Apple and PayPal and sending text messages informing people that there is a problem with their account or their computer.
These text messages will ask people to call a number or click a link.
The fraudsters are trying to gain access to people’s bank accounts or credit card information or even ask them to purchase gift cards in exchange for them clearing up the problem, PCSO said.
Never give personal or financial information, click on suspicious links or call numbers listed in texts if you are not sure of the sender, PCSO said.
