Police warn of rising SMS fraud targeting crypto users – Cyprus Mail

The cybercrime division of the police has issued a fresh warning over a surge in fraudulent SMS messages, urging the public to stay vigilant against scams targeting cryptocurrency users.
According to an official statement, fraudsters are sending mass text messages to random recipients, falsely claiming to represent Binance, a well-known cryptocurrency exchange. The messages allege that an unauthorised login attempt has been detected from a foreign country, prompting recipients to call a phone number provided in the message.
Authorities warn that the ultimate aim of the scammers is to deceive victims into disclosing their login credentials, granting criminals access to their accounts. Police have confirmed that these messages are fraudulent and stressed that recipients should not respond or engage with the sender in any way.
In light of the growing threat, law enforcement officials are advising the public to enable two-factor authentication on all online accounts and to never share passwords or personal login details with anyone.
The police continue to monitor the situation and urge anyone who receives such messages to report them immediately. By staying cautious and adopting strong security measures, users can protect themselves from falling victim to cyber fraud.
