Wyndham City has registered “WyndhamCity” as its official SMS sender ID to help residents identify genuine council text messages. Residents are urged to be cautious with messages marked “Unverified”, particularly those requesting payments, personal information or link clicks.
Wyndham residents are being urged to check the sender name on text messages claiming to come from Wyndham City as new protections aim to make impersonation scams easier to spot.
Wyndham City has registered its official SMS sender ID under the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s SMS Sender ID Register.
Genuine branded text messages from the council will now appear on phones under the sender name “WyndhamCity”.
Since 1 July 2026, branded SMS and MMS messages using an unregistered sender ID appear as “Unverified”.
An “Unverified” label does not necessarily mean a message is a scam, but residents are being advised to use extra caution if a message claims to be from Wyndham City.
Particular care should be taken with messages asking recipients to click a link, make a payment, provide personal information or share a security code.
Residents who are unsure about a message should avoid clicking links or using contact details contained in the text.
Instead, they can independently visit Wyndham City’s official website or contact council customer service on 1300 023 411 to check whether the message is genuine.
The SMS Sender ID Register was introduced by the Australian Communications and Media Authority to make it harder for scammers to impersonate trusted businesses and organisations through branded text messages.
