Mobile contracts are a pain. Especially when you’re forced to choose between Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, or Telkom. That’s why MTN, the country’s speediest mobile network operator (overall), is doing away with them. Not entirely of course, but in the case of its new product, SuperFlex, you won’t be getting any carpal tunnel syndrome from signing every page of a contract. What you will get, if you choose to go for one, is unlimited minutes and SMSes and some data to boot.
It helps that the offerings aren’t half bad. SuperFlex automatically includes unlimited minutes and SMSes, with MTN throwing in a six-month subscription to Disney+ Mobile as a launch offer. But who uses minutes and SMSes (or Disney+ Mobile) anymore? The real meat of SuperFlex is its mobile data offerings.
There are three data packages to choose from, with the aforementioned unlimited data, SMSes and Disney+ subscription applying to all packages. The only difference is how much data you’ll be allotted each month. It’s worth noting that this is a SIM-only offer.
“MTN SuperFlex gives customers the flexibility to build and adjust their plans according to their changing needs. One of the key benefits of this plan is simplicity – meaning that there are no complex, time-based, location-based data bundles or network-specific call benefits – just the freedom for customers to use their data where and when they want, and to connect with unlimited minutes and SMS,” MTN said in a statement (via techcentral).
According to MTN’s FAQ, calls and SMSes made on SuperFlex apply to all local networks. It also mentions that any unused data is carried over after each month, though this only extends to a two-month period so you can’t stockpile unused data.
To sign up for SuperFlex, head over to MTN’s website, then click shop > mobile plans > SuperFlex > choose your data > choose your optional device > checkout. To cancel a SuperFlex plan (which can be done at any time), you’ll need to download the MTN app and follow the prompts.
