Lawrence County residents face surge in text-linked phishing scams – rocketcitynow.com

LAWRENCE COUNTY, ALABAMA, Ala. — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent spike in phishing scams sent through text messages that attempt to steal personal information.
These scam texts may appear to come from trusted sources like banks, government agencies, or delivery companies but are designed to trick recipients into clicking malicious links or sharing sensitive data.
Officials advise watching out for messages from unfamiliar numbers, suspicious links, and urgent language such as “Your account is locked!” or “Click now to avoid charges!” Requests for personal information like Social Security numbers, passwords, or bank details are clear red flags.
