South Korea’s three mobile network operators, SK Telecom (SKT), Korea Telecom (KT) and LG Uplus, have moved iPhone-based Rich Communication Services (RCS) business messaging from beta to full commercial service, following several months of testing and optimisation. RCS allows longer text messages and the transmission of high-quality images and files compared with SMS and MMS. While RCS had previously been supported only on Android devices in Korea, Apple enabled RCS support on iOS from last year.
