Iran to Conduct “Public Warning Alert via Mobile Phones” Drill – – WANA News Agency

WANA (Nov 13) – The Iranian Passive Defense Organization announced in a statement that a “Public Warning Alert via Mobile Phones” drill will be conducted.

According to the organization’s official statement, the exercise aims to evaluate the readiness of Iran’s executive bodies and follows a series of drills held during the country’s Passive Defense Week in November. The test is scheduled for Friday, November 14, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. local time, in selected regions across the country.

The exercise will be carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and will primarily assess the performance and technical capabilities of the Cell Broadcasting emergency alert system operated by Hamrah Aval (Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran).

The system allows authorities to send targeted alerts to mobile phone users in specific areas affected by natural disasters or emergencies such as earthquakes, floods, or storms — helping enhance public safety and crisis response.

The statement added that similar drills will later be held with other mobile operators, and detailed schedules will be announced in due course.

During Friday’s test, some Hamrah Aval subscribers in selected areas will receive an alert message on their phones. The alert will include a short message identifying it as part of the drill, along with accompanying sound, vibration, and a warning icon on the screen. The alert format may vary depending on the device model, and unlike regular SMS messages, it will automatically disappear after a short time.

Authorities emphasized that the alert is purely a test and does not indicate any real threat or emergency. Citizens who do not receive the message are not required to take any action, as this could be due to technical limitations or their location outside the designated test zones.

The Passive Defense Organization expressed its appreciation for the public’s cooperation and urged citizens to follow official news about the exercise only through verified and national media outlets.
