iPhone users should be particularly vigilant at the moment. In recent days, fraudulent messages have been circulating that are not sent as traditional text messages but via Apple's iMessage.
The senders use international numbers, for example from the Philippines (+63) or Morocco (+212). blue News has received reports from several readers.
In the messages, the perpetrators claim that a DPD parcel could not be delivered. The recipients are told to use a link to make a new appointment – for example with the message: "On September 8, we tried to deliver your DPD parcel. Unfortunately we were unable to reach you … Select a new date here."
However, the links provided do not lead to the official DPD website, but to fake pages. There the victims are tricked into disclosing personal data or even transferring money.
Such scams are nothing new. What is new, however, is that criminals are increasingly using iMessage instead of SMS to target iPhone users. Authorities and IT security experts urgently advise users to delete such messages immediately and never click on the links they contain.
