‘I’m sorry’: Minnesota shooting suspect’s roommate reads last text he received from him – WSAZ

(Gray News) – The roommate of the suspect who is believed to be responsible for shooting and killing a Minnesota state lawmaker and wounding another shared the last text he received from him.
“Dead shortly. So, I just wanna let you know that I love you guys both, and I wish it hadn’t gone this way. I don’t want to say anything more and implicate you in any way because you, you guys, don’t know anything about this. But I love you guys, and I’m sorry for all the trouble this has caused,” the text message to the roommate reads.
Police are looking for 57-year-old Vance Boelter.
Boelter’s roommate said he wishes he could have stopped Boelter.
“I mean, he was a loving, caring guy, you know? Loved his family, loved his friends and loved God. I don’t know why he did what he did,” he said.
Authorities said a suspect traded gunfire with officers outside the home of former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. Both were killed in the shooting.
Authorities said Boelter works for the security company, Praetorian Guard Security Services.
Officials previously said the gunman impersonated a police officer.
Hortman and her husband were both killed.
Minnesota state senator John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in a separate shooting.
Governor Tim Walz said the shootings appeared to be politically motivated.
