When your Google Pixel 10 won’t send texts, it can be incredibly frustrating. You might see a message stuck on “Sending,” get an error notification, or have it fail without any warning. The good news is, this is usually something you can fix yourself without too much trouble.
This is the first thing I’d try. A simple restart clears out temporary glitches in the system and messaging app. Press and hold the Power button, then tap “Restart” on your screen. If your phone is unresponsive, you can force restart it by pressing and holding the Power button and Volume Up button together for about 10 seconds until the Google logo appears.
Text messages (SMS) need a cellular signal, and picture messages (MMS) require mobile data. Look at the top of your screen. If you don’t see signal bars or the mobile data icon, you might be in a dead zone. Try toggling Airplane Mode on and off from the Quick Settings panel to refresh your connection to the network.
You can also check if mobile data is enabled. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and tap the internet tile to open settings. Make sure “Mobile data” is turned on. If you’re trying to send an MMS, your carrier might require you to have an active data connection, even if you’re on Wi-Fi.
An outdated version of the Messages app or Android itself can cause sending problems. Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device > Updates available. See if Google Messages is listed and update it. For system updates, go to Settings > System > System update to check for and install the latest Android security patch or feature drop.
The app’s cache stores temporary data to help it run faster, but this data can sometimes become corrupted. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Find and tap “Messages.” Select Storage & cache and then tap “Clear cache.” This won’t delete any of your actual conversations.
If clearing the cache doesn’t help, you can try the next step: clearing the app’s storage data. This will reset the app to its default settings, so you’ll need to set your preferences again, but your messages will remain. On the same storage screen, tap “Clear storage” or “Manage space,” then “Clear all data.”
If you’ve installed other messaging apps, your Pixel might be confused about which one should handle texts. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps. Tap “SMS app” and make sure “Messages” is selected. If another app is set as default, your texts could be trying to send through the wrong service.
The Access Point Name (APN) tells your phone how to connect to your carrier’s network for data and MMS. Incorrect settings here are a common culprit for failed picture messages. Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Tap your active SIM, then Access Point Names.
You should see a list, usually with one entry selected. Do not delete this. Instead, contact your carrier’s support (check their website) and ask for the correct APN settings for your Pixel 10. You can then add a new APN with those details. Once saved, select the new APN and restart your phone.
This step will erase all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and cellular settings, but it often resolves deep-seated network issues. Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth” and confirm. After your phone restarts, you’ll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices.
This helps determine if the problem is with your Pixel or with your carrier account/SIM card. Power off your Pixel 10, remove the SIM card tray, and place the SIM in another compatible phone. If texts also fail to send from that device, the issue is likely with your carrier service. You’ll need to contact them to ensure SMS/MMS is provisioned correctly on your line.
If you’ve worked through these steps and texts still won’t send, it’s time to call your mobile provider. There could be an outage in your area, a problem with your account, or a network setting that only they can fix on their end. Have your account information ready when you call or start a live chat.
