Hamas has accused Israel of waging a “psychological campaign” against Palestinians after sending out SMS messages reportedly offering help to leave the besieged enclave.
The messages instructed residents at Al-Nuseirat refugee camp to arrange a meeting on Tuesday between 9 am and 2pm at the Netzarim Corridor and to contact a person identified only as “Captain Jalal” via WhatsApp.
Another Palestinian claimed his family was sent a text by someone claiming to be a Gaza resident offering help to evacuate to France. The man claimed the relocation was part of a French government program aimed at supporting scientists and artists from conflict zones, according to Haaretz.
He wrote that the evacuation would occur this week under the supervision of the French government and that additional scientists and their families would also be leaving. The program reportedly allows such individuals to continue their academic or cultural work in France at institutions of higher education or research.
The message read: “We are deeply grateful for this precious opportunity which allows us to continue our scientific work in a safe and stable environment. We hope to contribute our knowledge to the local community in France, but also to return one day and help rebuild Palestine and the Gaza Strip.”
According to Israel’s military, there is no knowledge of any such messages being officially distributed. But Hamas has condemned the messages, slamming them as part of a broader psychological operation led by Israel, which has already killed more than 61,700 Palestinians.
In a statement, the group said that Israel is circulating “rumours of emigration from Gaza to foreign countries via Ramon Airport,” as a tactic designed to “shake the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and harm their national consciousness.”
They added that the campaign includes “forged documents and false promises”, warning the public not to fall for the call. “Immigration from the homeland under occupation is not a safe solution, but a trap wrapped in false promises. Palestine is not for sale, and our people will not be uprooted,” the group added.
Hamas also urged Palestinians to avoid engaging with phone numbers circulating on social media, which it claims are being used for intelligence-gathering purposes.
In response, the Government Media Office in Gaza warned on Monday against the circulation of “misleading rumours” concerning the mass migration plans.
“We are monitoring what has recently been circulated on some social media platforms — false posts and misleading information about alleged arrangements for mass migration from the Gaza Strip, supposedly organised by controversial figures in cooperation with external parties, promoting the travel of Palestinian families through Ramon Airport to various countries around the world,” the office said in a statement.
It further stressed that “the Israeli occupation is behind these posts, which are promoted by fake, malicious, or misled accounts, or by individuals who do not possess accurate information, using forged documents and worthless legal authorisation forms”.
Despite growing reports of people leaving Gaza, sources on the ground say the numbers remain in the low thousands and do not represent a mass exodus.

It comes after Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz threatened to make Gaza “smaller and more isolated”. Katz also said that “during the Passover holiday, the army took control of the Morag corridor, which cuts across the Gaza Strip from east to west over a distance of 12 kilometres, separating the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, thus turning the area between the Philadelphi corridor and the Morag corridor into part of the Israeli security belt”.
Earlier this month, a senior Israeli official accompanying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a visit to Hungary told reporters that Israel was in talks with multiple countries to forcibly displace Palestinians from the enclave.
The official said Israel is “very serious” about implementing US President Donald Trump’s plan, which includes the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza to third countries.
During a bruising meeting at the White House, Netanyahu was encouraged to further annihilate Gaza to materialise his plan to turn the besieged enclave into the “Riviera of the Middle East“, which has sparked widespread condemnation as an effort to “ethnically cleanse” Palestinians.
