Mark Zuckerberg has undergone surgery after sustaining an injury during a sparring session.
The Facebook co-founder – who’s been anticipated as heading into the ring against Twitter owner Elon Musk – has revealed he’s been injured while training for his MMA fight which was set to take place in 2024.
Zuckerberg took to Instagram to share an update with followers.

Zuckerberg has been going hard in training for the fight, previously seen on social media, alongside MMA fighters Israel Adesanya and Alex Volkanovsk.
Whether the training is actually for Zuckerberg’s rumoured fight against Musk remains unknown.
So far, the battle between the pair has remained solely online – a series of indirect tweets later developing into text messages between Zuckerberg and Musk.
Musk said the fight would be live-streamed on X – formerly known as Twitter – however, Zuckerberg spoke out saying he wasn’t holding his breath, noting on X rival platform Threads he’d offered a date to Musk but the Tesla CEO had yet to confirm.
In a post to Instagram yesterday (Friday, 3 November), Zuckerberg shared four photographs of himself in a hospital bed.
The first image shows the Meta co-founder in a hospital gown with his left leg lifted. The second, his leg now in a brace; the third, being tended to by his wife Priscilla Chan as wipes his forehead, and the fourth with a slide being put on his left foot.
Zuckerberg’s hand is clasped into a fist in both the first and second pictures – he’s clearly not giving up anytime soon.
The caption reads: “Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it. Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me.
“I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that’s delayed a bit.
“Still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thanks to everyone for the love and support.”
People have flocked to the post to offer their support to Zuckerberg, who started training in Brazilian jiujitsu (BJJ) a few years ago.
UFC star Merab Dvalishvili wrote: “Speedy recovery Mark.”
“Down but not out. You’ll be back before you know it. Speedy recovery,” another user commented.
A third added: “Get well soon bro let me know if I can bring soup.”
And a fourth resolved: “So sorry to hear that Mark! Wishing you a speedy recovery.”
