Dubai Police have renewed their warning to residents over a surge in fraud attempts involving fake phone calls and text messages impersonating officials or bank representatives.
The alert is part of the ongoing “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, which aims to raise awareness as scammers continue to use increasingly sophisticated methods.
According to authorities, fraudsters often pose as government or banking officials to trick victims into revealing sensitive information such as bank account details, passwords, or one-time verification codes. In many cases, this leads to unauthorized account access or forced urgent money transfers.
Dubai Police stressed that no legitimate government or financial institution in the United Arab Emirates will ever request confidential information through phone calls or SMS messages.
Officials said many scams rely on fear and urgency, with victims pressured to act immediately due to threats of fines, legal action, or account suspension.
Residents are urged to verify any suspicious communication by directly contacting the concerned institution through official channels before taking any action.
Authorities also advised the public not to share personal or financial information with unknown callers, avoid clicking suspicious links, and refrain from downloading unverified applications. They further encouraged the use of strong passwords and two-factor authentication for added security.
Dubai Police reminded residents to report fraud attempts or blackmail incidents through the eCrime platform, by calling 901, or via the “Police Eye” service on the Dubai Police app or official website.
