The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities is asking customers to look closely at text messages claiming gas leaks.

BPU says that fraudulent text messages, claiming to be from BPU, have been going out to customers, reporting gas leaks and advising immediate evacuation. BPU says these texts are fake.
BPU text messages will only come from the phone number 80213.
Customers are encouraged to be suspicious of texts from unknown numbers. Don’t reply to or click on any links.
