Recently, several fraudulent websites have been identified that impersonate digital government services, including MPay and EVO. Citizens are receiving SMS messages claiming they have unpaid debts or outstanding payments, such as traffic fines, and are urged to click on links to make payments. These websites are designed to mimic official interfaces and aim to collect personal and banking information.
The Electronic Governance Agency emphasizes that all digital public services in the Republic of Moldova are only available on official domains ending in .gov.md. For instance, the government electronic payment service can only be accessed at mpay.gov.md.
Any other domain, even those that use similar names or visual elements resembling official pages, does not belong to the state and should be approached with caution.
MPay and EVO do not request payments through links sent via SMS or email. Furthermore, digital public services will never require the entry of bank details on unknown or unofficial websites, according to the institution’s warning.
Authorities recommend that citizens avoid clicking on links from unknown or suspicious sources and always verify website addresses. They advise against entering personal or bank details on unofficial pages and encourage accessing public services by manually typing official URLs into the browser.
Citizens who receive such messages or spot suspicious websites are urged to report them to [email protected] or [email protected].
