KENTUCKY (WCHS) — Kentucky troopers are warning the public of a scam involving fraudulent text messages impersonating the agency.
The messages contain language regarding unpaid traffic violations, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police.
Troopers said the messages are not legitimate, as they often include a link and may try to create urgency to get immediate payment. Troopers said recipients are strongly encouraged to not click any links and delete the message immediately.
"KSP emphasizes that it does not contact individuals via text message regarding citations, fines or payments," KSP said in the release. "Any communication requesting payment through a text message should be considered suspicious."
