LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Head’s up Kentuckians, a new text message scam impersonating the state transportation agency is going around.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) warned on Friday there are messages being received that impersonates the agency, the Office of Highway Safety and driver licensing offices. It will have a suspicious link similar to other state government website addresses.
State officials said the scam text messages warn customers of unpaid traffic tickets or “traffic infractions” and say a “payment is due” and “actions will be taken” if they’re not resolved.
KYTC said they are working to get the fraudulent websites taken down.
