Tensions high/ Trump reveals Macron's text messages, mocks Canada and attacks Britain – Vox News Albania

US President Donald Trump tweeted overnight that he had spoken with NATO chief Mark Rutte, in which he agreed to a meeting in Davos with key stakeholders on Greenland.
He then published a message sent by French President Emmanuel Macron, shared a map of the Western Hemisphere showing Canada (and Venezuela) as American, and rebuked Britain for handing over a military base in the Indian Ocean.
Hold your breath.
“I had a very good call with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, regarding Greenland,” Trump wrote. “We agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos, Switzerland. As I have made very clear to everyone, Greenland is essential to National and Global Security. There can be no going back, on that everyone agrees!”
Trump has stepped up his threats to take Greenland in recent days, announcing that he will impose 10 percent tariffs on eight European countries that have mobilized to try to block the US president’s extraterritorial ambitions.
The tariff announcement has sparked a constant sprint among European leaders to come up with a response to Trump.
Macron, in a text message that Trump photographed and posted on social media, apparently wrote to the American leader: “My friend, we are completely aligned on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I don’t understand what you are doing with Greenland.”
“Let’s try to build great things,” Macron added, as he tried to curry favor with Trump.
“I can organize a G7 meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon. I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danes, the Syrians, and the Russians to the sidelines. Let’s have dinner together in Paris on Thursday before you go back to the US. Emmanuel.”
A French official close to Macron confirmed that the message was authentic.
In another indication that the US president and his MAGA allies are ramping up the rhetoric about pursuing supremacy over the entire Western Hemisphere, Trump then posted a fake map, displayed against the backdrop of a real photo from a march of European leaders to Washington in August to discuss Ukraine, that showed Canada, Greenland and Venezuela, all under the American flag.
To cap the social media firestorm, Trump then turned his attention to Britain, which has agreed to a deal to hand over full sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
He attacked the UK for “planning to give Diego Garcia Island, the site of a vital US Military Base, to Mauritius, and for doing so WITHOUT ANY REASON.”
“An act of great stupidity,” Trump called Britain’s decision to give the island to Mauritius./ Politico.eu
