COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -11 News is learning new details following the resignation of the mayor of Palmer Lake. Glant Havenar stepped down last week, days after dozens of text messages were released online allegedly involving herself and the town’s handling of the potential land annexation for Buc-ee’s. The texts are now included in a massive 50 plus page lawsuit naming the mayor and other town officials.
Our station has reached out to Havenar several times in regards to this story. She will not speak with us.
11 News spoke with woman who says she made those messages public, Darcy Schoening. Schoening said that she was best friends with Havenar and that she leaked the text messages because she claims Havenar was not being an honest mayor.
“It turned into the mayor against the town and she kind of wanted to use me as her political hit person. I’m not willing to do that anymore,” said Darcy Schoening, a Monument resident and former friend of Glant Havenar.
Schoening said in the released dozens of text messages between herself and the Havenar, the former mayor allegedly admits to making a fake Next Door account to defend herself amid backlash. Others appear to show the former mayor discussing what votes over the project will be before the board meetings were even held.
“All of her messages just started to descend into, you know, she hated everybody, and she wanted to go after everybody. She was asking me to go after everybody. Behind the cover of a smile ‚it’s just lashing out at the whole town,” said Schoening
Schoening told 11 News Grace Kraemer she wanted to come forward after she said Havenar attacked her personally.
“She did something that was very unforgivable. She tried to hurt my family and myself in a way that I could not forgive. I’m not only owed it to my community, but to myself,” said Schoening.
The messages leaked are now included in documents in a lawsuit against the former mayor and other town officials over alleged violation of Colorado’s open meetings law. It’s filed by a group called Integrity Matters.
“We’re finally proving it. This is not just that we are suspicious. I mean it one of the chats Glant says the vote is going to be whatever number to whatever number and she named her it was who was going to vote against it and sharing us,” said Kat Gayle, the Chief Legal Counsel for Integrity Matters.
Kat Gayle tells Kraemer she was also named in some of the messages.
“When you are the mayor, you represent all of the citizens in a town. The fact that she calls people terrorists and called them names, I got slammed for my appearance. You just don’t say that,” said Gayle.
Havenar has not accepted any of 11 News’s offers to comment for this story or answer our questions, including if she sent the text messages. She has also not shared why she is stepping down. Havenar did send 11 News a statement announcing her resignation, and thanking the residents of Palmer Lake.
To the Citizens of Palmer Lake, the Town Board, and Town Staff,

Serving this town for the past 12 years—in many capacities—has been one of the greatest honors of my life. From community events to difficult decisions, every moment has been rooted in my unwavering love and commitment to this extraordinary community and its people.
I leave this position with every confidence in the integrity and strength of the current Town Board. They are good people with sincere intentions, and I ask you to continue supporting them. Fight for them when necessary. Stand by them when it matters most.

Thank you for the trust, the support, and the memories. I will always carry this town in my heart.
With deep gratitude and unwavering hope,
On Thursday, the Palmer Lake Board of Trustees will determine how to fill Havenar’s vacancy. Integrity Matters said the lawsuit will be amended in the coming days to include Havenar’s resignation.
