It seems too good to be true — because it is.
The Federal Trade Commission has seen an uptick in reports of scam text messages offering fake jobs.
These texts can be convincing, with multiple paragraphs resembling messages from real recruiters, but then you are asked to text a random number. The goal of these scams is to trick you into investing money into the scam or take more of your personal information. These messages might come from a suspicious-looking email or an unknown phone number. These schemes are elaborate, taking great lengths to appear legitimate.
This style of scam has skyrocketed recently, according to the FTC.
