Woman ends marriage after discovering one-word text message on husband's phone – The Mirror

A one word text was all it took to break this couples marriage up as the wife claimed she ‘deserved better’ after finding out how her husband truly felt about her
When you're married, the last thing you'd think you would end up doing is having a little snoop on your partners phone while they're out of the room, but one woman did just that – and it ended her marriage.
She never realised her husband had a 'nickname' for her that he used around his friends, and it's safe to say, she wasn't at all impressed by it. When she realised what he really thought of her, it resulted in her walking out on him and divorcing him from his one worded name for her he used with his friends.
She admitted there had been a change in their relationship since their son was born, she still allowed him to have his downtime as he was the "main breadwinner" in the family. He had Thursday nights to himself to go and play sports, as well as "Friday lunches, that always turned into Friday night drinks, because they were networking opportunities" she never had an issue with any of it.
However, he "hated" telling her his plans. The woman had then found out her husband painted her out to be controlling, as his nickname for her was "SWMBO" (she who must be obeyed) despite her letting him do whatever he wanted – and it ended in a divorce.
The nickname upset her so much, she left their home and claimed she "deserved better". Quoting herself, she said: "Would he be home in time for dinner? Could I book a haircut on a Saturday morning? Was he having drinks with his mates straight from work? Who knew – because he certainly refused to tell me. He claimed he didn't have to. It was a weird shift in our marriage that I hadn't expected – this stubborn reluctance to tell us when he was going to participate in our lives."
She claimed it had "floundered" their marriage as she wrote in an anonymous post on Mamamia. As he had a "disinterest in participating" in their family life, and marriage, she added: "We fought, and fought about it; I just needed something from him to show we made a difference"
One Friday morning, her husband was in the shower when his phone kept going off, so she checked it for him, and came across messages between his sports club friends. The woman further explained: "It was a group message between his sporting club mates about a 'do over' that night, after a big post-match session the previous night."
However, it was his response that confused her. He'd replied: "Don't think I can make it tonight. SWMBO will say no," and she recalled: "I was bemused – what did 'SWMBO' mean? It presumably alluded to me – but what did it stand for? And also – he hadn't asked me about that night, so I was annoyed he'd blamed it on me."
She decided to confront him and ask him what it meant, so she went into the bathroom with his phone. "He wasn't mad I'd looked at his phone. He was totally unmoved by having to explain the message to me," and his response left her feeling like she'd been "slapped in the face" as he casually revealed it meant "She Who Must Be Obeyed".
"It wasn't a matter of 'obeying' me, or asking my permission, as he often complained. It's not called 'asking permission' like he's a teenager and I'm his mother. I took my baby and I left my husband the next week," she admitted, as she knew in the moment there was "no coming back" from it. She stated that she "deserved better", however some people think her actions were "ridiculous".
Whereas others assured her she did the right thing by leaving and said: "You deserved better and I'm happy you had the courage to leave," while another added: "Good for you, sounds like a wise move."
