A first responders breakfast is planned for 10 a.m. today at White Oak Baptist Church, 190 Lawrence 612 in Walnut Ridge. As a thank you, the church invites all first responders to breakfast in appreciation for their dedication to the community. There will also be a time of recognition during the worship service that begins at 11 a.m.
Quilts made by members of the Loose Threads Quilters are on display today-Tuesday at the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, 315 W. Oak Ave. The theme of the display is black, white and gray, with a random color chosen from a bag of crayons. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
“Freaky Friday: The Musical” will continue today and Monday at The Forum Theater, 115 E. Monroe Ave., in Jonesboro. Presented by the Foundation of Arts, performances will be at 2 p.m. today and 6 p.m. Monday; Admission for the Sunday performance will be pay-what-you-can. Tickets range from $21 to $19 for adults; $20 to $18 for children 3-12 years old; and $18.50 to $17 for seniors 65 and older, military personnel and Arkansas State University students, and are available at the Forum Box Office, by phone at 870-935-2726, or online at foajonesboro.org.
Katelyn Nacon, who plays Enid on “The Walking Dead” will be at B & B Collections, 1301 Stone St. in Jonesboro for the store’s second All Things Nerdy: Trunk or Treat Edition from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Photo ops will be available. This free community event will also include trunk-or-treating.
Trunk-or-treating, hosted by Paragould First United Methodist Church, 404 W. Main St., will start at 4 p.m. today in the church parking lot. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes and bring the whole family to this free event. Call 870-239-8541 with questions.
Public voting can now be made online at www.klekfm.org for the nominees in the KLEK inaugural Kwanzaa CommUNITY Awards Voting runs through Monday. Eight awards, one for each of the seven principles of Kwanzaa and the Qubilah Jones Bee Intentional Community Service Award will be presented Dec. 16.
Trick-or-treating, hosted by the residents of Wesley on the Ridge, 300 Creath Ave. in Jonesboro will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday. All community kids are welcome.
Tami Wynn is the Featured Forum Exhibit Artist for October. As part of its outreach program, each month, the Foundation of Arts selects an artist to exhibit in The Forum Theater lobby, 115 E. Monroe Ave., Jonesboro. Wynn’s works are unique hand-embossed copper pieces with flame coloring using patina. The exhibition is open during Forum business hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, throughout the month and items are available for purchase. Free health screenings and a blood drive hosted by St. Bernards Healthcare and the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library are scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the library Round Room, 315 West Oak Ave. Screenings will include total cholesterol, body mass index, blood pressure, glucose level, blood sugar and anemia. Participants will receive their results by mail within two weeks. There will also be a drawing for a gift basket provided by the library. Fasting after midnight the evening before is strongly recommended for accurate glucose and cholesterol readings.
All-day trick-or-treating is planned throughout the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, 315 West Oak Ave. on Tuesday. Visitors are invited to stop by each department for treats, to take photos with library staff in costume, and enter to win one of two Halloween gift baskets – one for adults and one for kids. Winners will be chosen at 5 p.m. and do not need to be at the drawing. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some packaged candies may contain peanuts.
A Little Glow Party and storytime are planned at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Brookland Public Library, 401 S. Holman St. Children ages 5 and younger, and their parents are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes for a spooky story and glow dance party. Trunk-or-treating is planned for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Calvary Chapel of Jonesboro, 411 Calvary Cove. The event will feature fellowship, candy and fun for the whole family.
A free Halloween Arts Bash for all ages hosted by the Department of Art and Design at Arkansas State University will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fine Arts Center, 2412 Quapaw Way. This event will feature activities including haunted charades, a haunted house gallery, a Halloween costume contest for visitors and a costume design contest for faculty. There will also be pumpkin painting, tic-tac-toe, candy corn bowling, free coloring books, trick-or-treating, vendor booths, a haunted hall and photo opportunities.
Light the Night Trunk-or-Treat hosted by Village Creek Baptist Church will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mary Alice Holden Conner Memorial Park, 2713 Stegall Road in Newport. The community is invited to trunk-or-treat and enjoy hot dogs and s’mores.
Boo in the ‘Boro hosted by the Mayor’s Youth Advancement Council of Jonesboro will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Union Park, 405 Union Ave. in downtown Jonesboro. This event will be safe, free, and fun for the entire community and will include trunk-or-treating, games, entertainment, a photo booth, face painting and more for all ages.
Trunk-or-treating will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, 1603 Arkansas 351 North in Jonesboro. All children in the area are invited to attend.
An outdoor movie and popcorn, along with trunk-or-treating will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 207 Rebecca Lane in Walnut Ridge. Everyone is invited to attend.
Trunk-or-Treat at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 200 S.E. Sixth St. in Walnut Ridge will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. All are invited to attend.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be screened at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Forum Theater, 115 E. Monroe Ave. in Jonesboro. Admission to the movie is free, but interactive prop bags can be purchased for $20. Hosted by the Foundation of Arts, a pre-show costume contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the winner receiving a free prop bag and a gift card to Golden Grotto.
Registration for the 76th annual Jonesboro Christmas Parade is now open. This year’s theme is “A Merry Melody.” A new float design competition is planned for this year, with the winner hosting Santa and Mrs. Claus on their float. Original float designs must be submitted by Wednesday. A winner will be announced Friday. Registration to participate in the parade is open until Nov. 24. A free career fair for both students and the community will be held by Arkansas State University- Newport on Wednesday at the ASUN-Marked Tree administration building, 33500 U.S. 63. Student hours are 10 a.m. to noon. The community is welcome from 1 to 3 p.m.
A free online class, “Building a Smart Online Marketing Strategy,” will be offered on Zoom by the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at Arkansas State University from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Melissa Forziat of Melissa Forziat Events and Marketing will lead this class. Registration is required and can be made by calling the ASBTDC at 870-972-3517. The Commemorative Air Force “Rise Above” exhibit will be on display Wednesday-Saturday, next to the Blytheville Air Force Base Exhibition, 3711 Idaho St. Hosted by the National Cold War Center, the exhibit features films about the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots during World War II. In addition to the films, the exhibit will also feature a P-51 Mustang aircraft. Admission is free.
Laura Miller, director of the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at Arkansas State University, along with Rheanna Branscum, an ASBTDC business consultant, will lead the class “Marketing Your Small Business,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, 201 Hazel St. The class is free, but registration is required and can be made by calling the ASBTDC at 870-972-3517.
The Craighead County Retired Teachers Association will meet at noon Thursday, at the Harlin Henry Senior Citizens Center, 1210 S. Church St. in Jonesboro. Jana Haskins will make a presentation on the Veterans Village. Members who have gift cards to donate to the veterans, should put the amount of the card on the back and bring them to this meeting.
A Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead celebration will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Arkansas State University Museum adjacent to Dean B. Ellis Library, 320 University Loop. This event is free to the public and will feature face painting, refreshments and sugar skull painting with music by Ricardo Puello. Guests may leave handwritten notes to loved ones who are no longer with them or display pictures of the beloved deceased on an elaborate Día de los Muertos altar known throughout Mexico as an ofrenda.
“Celebrate Service,” a program hosted by Nettleton High School EAST to show appreciation for those who have served this country, is scheduled from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday in the Performing Arts Center, 4201 Chieftain Lane, on the Nettleton High School campus. All former and current military personnel from all branches of the U.S. military, their family and friends are invited to attend. Parking will be available at both the gym parking lot and the PAC parking lot. The Spring River Gem and Mineral Club will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at Thunderbird Center, 62 N. Lakeshore Drive in Cherokee Village. Carla and Michael Quataert will present Cultures: Exploring China. The presentation is free and open to the public.
A Cold War Conversation featuring John Clauson, author of the 2017 book, “Missileman: The Secret Life of Cold War Engineer Wallace Clauson.” will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Ritz Theater, 306 W. Breakfast with Ballerinas will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church 710 Southwest Drive in Jonesboro. Hosted by the Foundation of Arts, this annual event features a meet and greet with the ballerinas from this year’s production of the Nutcracker Ballet, including photo opportunities, a story time and a sneak peek dance from the show. Tickets include breakfast, a craft, shopping in the FOA Ballerina Boutique and a silent auction. A rummage sale hosted by the Animal Farm, a no-kill animal shelter in Paragould, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Farville Curve Flea Market area on U.S. 49 North in Jonesboro. The location is across the highway from Gamble Home Furnishings, 5036 U.S. 49. All proceeds will be used to care for the animals at the shelter.
The National Cold War Center’s annual Cold War Party will be held Saturday in Hangar 207 of the Arkansas Aeroplex, 4701 Memorial Drive in Blytheville. The party is the center’s largest fundraising event. It will begin at 6 p.m. Dress is cocktail attire. Individual tickets are $150. Orleans will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the EACC Fine Arts Center, 1700 Newcastle Drive in Forrest City. Tickets go on sale six weeks prior to the concert. Holiday Pet Photos, a fundraiser for the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society is set for Nov. 11, 13 and 14 in the Jonesboro Shooting Sports Complex classroom, 3702 Moore Road in Jonesboro. Appointments are available from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11; from 1-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, and 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. Appointments can be made by calling or texting 870-897-5258. Do not contact the NEAHS shelter or the Shooting Sports Complex for appointments. Please note: The range will be in operation during Saturday appointments so there may be intermittent gunfire at that time. For their safety, pets should be brought on leashes or in carriers at all times.
