Truecaller has introduced AI-powered Message IDs, a new feature designed to help users better manage their cluttered SMS inboxes. Now available in India and over 30 countries, the tool uses artificial intelligence to identify, label, and highlight critical messages such as bank alerts, OTPs, delivery updates, flight itineraries, and payment reminders. This enhancement aims to reduce spam and ensure that important communications are easier to find and act upon.

Truecaller has launched its AI-powered Message IDs feature that uses AI and large language models (LLMs) for on-device scanning of SMS inboxes. This ensures user data privacy, as no data is sent to external servers. The feature is designed to intelligently identify important business messages, such as payment reminders, OTPs, and bank alerts, by processing messages directly on the user’s device.

Unlike some features restricted to premium users, Message IDs are available to all Truecaller users. The rollout supports multiple global and Indian languages like English, Hindi, Spanish, and Swahili. To function optimally, it requires “Read SMS” and “Display Over Other Apps” permissions. Verified business messages now appear with Green Message IDs, marked with a check mark to distinguish them from scams or spoofed texts, making it easier for users to identify trustworthy senders.

The system also highlights non-standard but important messages, summarizing key information using AI. These AI-generated summaries are displayed above the original message, clearly marked to help users quickly absorb important details and take prompt action. This feature goes beyond traditional SMS categorization to surface anything the system deems crucial or time-sensitive.
The launch of Message IDs follows Truecaller’s recent upgrade for iPhone users, which introduced API support for features like real-time caller ID and spam blocking—capabilities previously available only on Android. With this addition, Truecaller’s iOS app now matches its Android counterpart, strengthening its cross-platform feature set and commitment to smarter communication experiences.
