Let’s save some time here… Question is… does daily meditation create a healthier mind, body, and spirit? Let’s first talk about the Platinum level of meditation. Transcendental Meditation is a superpower and as simple as two syllables and 20 minutes. TM is the simple practice of sitting still and clearing the mind amidst a world filled with so many distractions, from the minuscule to the monumental, demanding our attention 24/7.
Here is where meditation becomes a welcoming and beneficial “pay yourself” daily practice, which will clear your psyche of stale garbage and evoke a feeling of peace and lucidity. How can you say no to that!
How did I come to learn and teach TM? First, I ended up at the University of the Maharishi in Fairfield, Iowa, all while going over a draft of an original screenplay I had written about a WWII fighter pilot—crazy as that sounds. When I look back, I’m sure this was one of those “meant to be” moments. I eventually went on to teach, and it came at one of the scariest times in my life. That story is saved for another time.
However, the people I have taught over the years have always shared the same reaction when the 20-minute meditation session ends: “THAT CANNOT BE 20 MINUTES! That felt like only 5 minutes had passed.” They all voiced a feeling that they had been on vacation. TM clears out the minutiae, thus allowing your thought process to focus on what is most important.
Pay yourself 20 minutes twice a day—or even once a day—and I promise you, your life will soar to heights you never thought possible. I speak from experience. There are parameters, but trust me, minor ones.
Transcendental Meditation is an effortless meditation practice that I teach either one-on-one or in groups. Your choice.
A little background: TM is a 5,000-year-old Ayurvedic science—evidence-based—evoking increased resilience to stress and the ability to handle challenging situations calmly. Research has shown that the TM technique is also effective for PTSD and ADHD. Even for those who believe they cannot sit still for that long… they always do.
There are hundreds of original, peer-reviewed, and published studies on the TM technique that were conducted from 1970 to the present. It’s unprecedented and unique among research on specific meditation techniques.
Benefits include improved brain functioning, increased energy, enhanced creativity, expanded awareness, stronger cardiovascular health, and more restful sleep. Now, who doesn’t want all of that!
At the pinnacle is your inner peace. When groups meditate together, it has been proven to raise the collective consciousness of all who participate and correlates with positive change in society.
I saw a firsthand video of various prisons, both overseas and in America, that offered TM to the prisoners. Those who signed up for the 3-part course and were subsequently released all became upright citizens. The crazy thing is that it’s so easy and effortless.
The reason for the 3 parts is to check to be sure you’re meditating properly. The other prerequisite is that you do not eat at least 2 hours prior to meditating, so your body is not digesting while you’re attempting to meditate—simply so it does not interfere with your meditation.
