This India Post Update Address Scam Can Steal Your Money, Here's How To Stay Safe – Times Now

India Post Update Address Scam Could Cost You All Your Savings
Scams are increasing at an aggressive rate in India. You skip a heartbeat here, and voila, a new scam pops up. And the latest one in the line is the India Post update address scam. Coming to the details, a lot of Indians are receiving SMS stating that their parcel has arrived at a warehouse of India Post, but could not be delivered due to an incomplete address. After that, the message asks the recipients to update their address in a given timeframe to avoid the return of the package.
Now, at first glance, the text message seems like a legit one, which can obviously worry someone who is waiting for a package. However, the message creates a sense of urgency by saying that if you fail to update the address, the parcel will be returned to the source. And for the change of address, the users are supposed to click a link shared in the message.
But, India Post and PIB have already clarified in a statement that the message is fake in nature and is designed to dupe people into giving their financial and personal details to scammers. PIB issued the warning on X, suggesting that any SMS making such claims is a scam and users have been asked not to share any personal or financial details if they happen to receive this kind of message.

For your information, the link in the message will take you to a website that looks identical to that of India Post. Here you will be asked to change your address and then pay a small amount of money. With your credentials, these scammers can empty all your life savings in the blink of an eye.
First things first, think it through if you even have a potential delivery from India Post or not. And even if you click on the link, make sure that the site you go to has the exact URL of India Post, because most of these duping sites add or change a character in the domain name that we don’t pay a lot of attention to. Last but not least, never ever share your bank account details on any website unless you are hundred per cent sure that it is a legit one.
