Telegram Bot Named 'Telekyope' Lets Unskilled Fraudsters Scam People; Here's How – Jagran English

Telegram's new bot named 'Telekyope' lets user scam people without any knowledge of IT. The new bot allows scammers to create phishing webpages, send phishing emails, SMS messages and save credit card numbers.
Telegram, one of the most popular WhatsApp alternatives, has always been the target of one of the most cybercrime attacks. According to a new report, a new Telegram bot dubbed Telekyope enables non-technical scammers to plan fraud without significant IT knowledge. These scammers use the bot to target unsuspecting buyers looking for bargains on online marketplaces, where it enables the creation of fake product listings that vanish after money is received.

Telekyope, a mix of ‘Telegram’ and ‘kopye’ (the Russian word for spear), takes a fresh look at fraud. The bot, which is accessible via Telegram, automates the process of producing phishing emails and SMS messages based on pre-defined templates. The primary victims of this technique appear to be online marketplace consumers, primarily but not only in Russia.

According to the report, Telekyope can create phishing webpages, send phishing emails and SMS messages, and even save critical victim information such as credit card numbers and email addresses. Its capabilities also include QR code generating, phishing screenshots, and image modification. The designers of the toolkit decided against using AI-powered chatbot features to aid in message writing to keep the interface simple for a larger pool of scammers.

Telekyope’s spread is evidenced by its repeated entries on the VirusTotal platform, where it was uploaded from countries such as Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. However, the report does not mentioned anything about India.
