BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Have you received a text message recently stating you have an outstanding traffic ticket? You may not be the only one, as a sudden increase in these messages has been noted across Kentucky.
The text message states, “Kentucky State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Final Notice: Enforcement Penalties Begin on June 9. Our records show that as of today, you still have an outstanding traffic ticket.”
The text message then asks you to click on a link where you provide your information as well as a payment. The DMV will never ask for your information over the phone or through a text message.
Area police, including Hopkinsville Police Department, Greenville Police Department, Scottsville Police Department and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, have all posted on Facebook warning about these messages.
Officials say if you receive a scam text like this, delete and block the number.
